Program Summary & Location
The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire has partnered with University Studies Abroad Consortium (USAC) to offer students the opportunity to study in San Ramón, Costa Rica. This program is ideal for nursing majors and students interested in learning about health and life sciences, biology, conservation and ecology in Costa Rica. Students will study at La Sede de Occidente - the western campus of the Universidad de Costa Rica (UCR). UCR is the oldest, largest, and most prestigious institution of higher learning in Costa Rica and has several regional campuses throughout the country. Students will have access to the campus laboratories, teaching collections, herbarium, research collections, and a small reserve on campus. The University also provides easy access to the Alberto M. Brenes Reserve and the biological field station.
Known as "the city of presidents and poets," San Ramón has been home to many of Costa Rica’s great political and literary figures, such as former President Jose Figueres Ferrer, who abolished the country’s army and granted women the right to vote. In the city, there are many excellent restaurants and shops, a mall, and theatres. Set against a dramatic backdrop of mountains, San Ramón is located half-way between the capital, San José, and the Pacific Ocean in the beautiful Central Valley of Costa Rica.

Housing & Meals
During the program you will be living with a host family, which offers an excellent opportunity for you to learn about family life in Costa Rica and practice your Spanish! Past students say that living with a family is one of the most valuable parts of their study abroad experience. You will learn as much at the dinner table as you do in the classroom. You will receive three meals a day from your host family.
