Puebla, Mexico Summer Academics

Eligibility

To apply, you must be a currently enrolled, degree-seeking, undergraduate UW-Eau Claire student. You need to be in good-academic, conduct and financial standing. You also need to have a cumulative GPA of 2.5. You must maintain enrollment and continue to meet the academic standing and GPA requirements the semester prior to departure. You may apply as a first year student, but must have at least sophomore standing by the time the program begins. Pre-requisites vary by program track. Please see details below.

Courses & UW-Eau Claire Equivalencies

You can choose from a variety of program tracks as described below. All tracks include the six credits listed below. Specific pre-requisites and equivalencies are outlined below. The business, education and health professions track include ~ 90 hours of observation, internship or volunteering in a relevant organization.  

Beginning/Intermediate Spanish Immersion Tracks:  Pre-requisites--none for track 1, Span 101 for track 2, Span 102 for track 3
Spanish and Mexican Culture 1 = Span 101 (4 credits) and 2 credits of Span lower division elective
Spanish and Mexican Culture 2 = Span 102 (4 credits) and 2 credits of Span lower division elective
Spanish and Mexican Culture 3 = Span 201 (4 credits) and 2 credits of Span lower division elective

Spanish for Business Track:  Pre-requisite—Spanish 301, Advanced Composition
Span 340: Spanish for Business (3 credits)
Span 930U:  Upper division Spanish elective (3 credits)

Spanish for Education Track:  Pre-requisite — Span 202 AND ES 408.
Flg 375:  Internship experience (3 credits) OR ES 493:  International Experience in Education
Span 970U: Upper division Spanish elective (3 credits) 

Spanish for Health Professions Track:  Pre-requisite — Spanish 301, Advanced Composition
Span 420:  Spanish for the Health Professions II-Interpretation (3 credits)
Span 930U:  Upper division Spanish elective (3 credits)
 

Liberal Education/General Education Requirements

For students in catalog years 2016-17 and later, this program can fulfill an Integrate Learning (I1) requirement upon completion of the integrated learning assignments while abroad. Please contact your study abroad coordinator for more details. 

For students in catalog years through 2015-16, six credits of foreign Culture can be waived upon successful program completion. The requirement is not automatically applied: please email Degree Review at regrec53@uwec.edu after completion of your program to update your degree audit. (Students earning a B.A., B.F.A., or B.M. degree in the College of Arts and Sciences cannot use study abroad to fulfill their foreign language/foreign culture requirements. See the university catalog for details.). 

Language Immersion

All Spanish and Latin American Studies majors and minors in any of the emphases offered must complete an appropriate period of language immersion in residence in a country where the language is spoken. This program meets the language immersion requirement.
