Courses

You will take 12-16 credits, including:
  • 1 Japanese language course at the appropriate level (4 credits)
  • 3-4 Japan Studies Courses, taught in English (2 credits each)
  • 1-2 seminars in Traditional Japanese Art (1 credit each)
The Japanese studies classes vary only slightly from year to year; however, the specific classes to be offered in a given semester are only determined a few months in advance. Visit the NUFS website for course information.

UW-Eau Claire Equivalencies

To find courses that have been evaluated, go to the Transfer Wizard site by clicking here
  • Choose Japan, then click "Search"
  • Click on Nagasaki Coll of Foreign Lang
  • Click "Search" again. All courses that have been evaluated for UWEC credit will appear.
If the course does not appear on the transfer wizard, it has not yet been evaluated for UWEC credit.

If the course does not appear on the transfer wizard, it has not yet been evaluated for UWEC credit and will be evaluated when you are enrolled in it. Please remember that the transfer wizard is a historical record. There is NO guarantee that the same courses will be offered in the future or that they will be offered during the term in which you will be abroad. It is very important to use the current Nagasaki offerings along with the transfer wizard. Using only the transfer wizard may result in inaccurate course knowledge.

Liberal Education Requirements

If you are in catalog year 2016-2017 or later, you can fulfill an Integrative Learning (I1) requirement through study abroad. You will opt in after being accepted to your program and must complete a series of assignments before, during and after your time abroad. Talk with your academic advisor about whether you need to complete an I1 requirement through study abroad. You must complete the first assignments prior to going abroad; retroactive enrollment is not allowed.
