Thessaloniki, Greece Academics

To apply, you must be a currently enrolled, degree-seeking, undergraduate UW-Eau Claire student. You need to be in good-academic, conduct and financial standing. You also need to have a cumulative GPA of 2.5. You must maintain enrollment and continue to meet the academic standing and GPA requirements the semester prior to departure. You may apply as a first year student, but must have at least sophomore standing by the time the program begins. No previous knowledge of the Greek language is needed.

In this program you will take a total of four courses, in English, in subjects such as Anthropology, Business, Computer Science, English, European Studies, History, and Politics. The Greece program is open to all majors. It is particularly suited to business majors. Specific courses may change at any time and are not guaranteed to be offered the term you go abroad.

To view a sampling of courses visit the ACT Course Offerings Website. Once on that page, if you click where it says "Please visit the Course Offerings page for more information regarding specific terms." you will then find more specific offerings for certain semesters.

During the semester (not available in the summer), ACT offers a three-credit course titled: BSAD 398 Undergraduate Internship in Business. If you enroll in this course, you will gain first hand experience in the business world but also connect it back to your academics. Students will need to work with academic department to determine how this experience counts towards their degree.

Volunteer Opportunities
There are a number of volunteer teaching opportunities at ACT for study abroad students, which include a pre-school institution, two grade schools, two middle schools, two high-schools, and a large I.B.program. Students can volunteer and participate in English language classes at the grade school level as teacher's assistants. They can work at the after school special bridge-bilingual English program (some positions each semester are paid). If you'd like for the volunteering to count towards service learning, you can work with UWEC's service learning office to arrange this.
