Academic Overview

Semester Students
  • choose from a variety of subjects, such as Anthropology, Computer Science, English, European Studies, History, and Politics
  • take a total of four courses (12-15 credits), taught in English. There is an additional charge for more than 15 credits.
  • although ACT has a business department, it is not AACSB accredited, and UWEC business majors/minors will not receive credit applicable to their business requirements
Summer Students
  • choose from similar subjects, but fewer courses
  • take 3-6 credits.  If you take the 4-credit nutrition course, you can take 7. For any 4-credit course, there is an additional fee for the 4th credit
  • to receive summer financial aid, you must take at least 6 credits
Each class in any term needs a minimum of eight students to run. The ACT Registrar's Office will finalize enrollments in March for summer, May for fall, and December for spring.

Service Learning
ACT offers a Service Learning Practicum course (Soc Sc 399) in some terms.

Volunteer Teaching Opportunities
ACT includes a pre-school, two grade schools, two middle schools, two high-schools, and a large International Baccalaureate high school program. You can volunteer as a teacher's assistant in a grade school English language class. You can also work at the after school bilingual English program (some positions each semester are paid). Work with UWEC's Center for Service Learning to arrange service-learning hours for these experiences.

How to Find Courses at ACT

For current year course offerings, visit the ACT Course Offerings web page and click on the term you are considering. UWEC's spring semester is Spring 1 at ACT. If you are planning for a future year, using the current year offerings will give you a good idea of what is offered but does not guarantee that specific courses will be offered when you're abroad.

How Courses Come Back to UWEC

Semester Students
To find courses that have been evaluated, go to the Transfer Credit Wizard (TCW) site by clicking here
  • Choose Greece, then click "Search"
  • Click on American Coll of Thessaloniki
  • Click "Search" again. All courses that have been evaluated for UWEC credit will appear.
If the course does not appear on the TCW, it has not yet been evaluated for UWEC credit. You can request an evaluation by sending the course title, number and description to your UWEC study abroad coordinator. It can take several weeks for an equivalency to be established.

The TCW is a historical record.  You will see many business courses with UWEC equivalencies.  These are no longer valid. In addition, there is NO guarantee that the courses listed on TCW will be offered during your term abroad. Begin with the ACT course listing, then move to the TCW.

Summer Students

You can use the TCW as explained above.  In addition, shortly after ACT releases the summer 2021 offerings, a table of ACT offerings and UWEC equivalents will be posted here.

ACT Grading Scale to UWEC Grading Scale

ACT professors grade on the same A-F scale used by UWEC. All grades you earn at ACT will count in your UWEC GPA; you cannot take courses pass/fail.

Liberal Education Requirements

If you are in catalog year 2016-2017 or later, you can fulfill an Integrative Learning (I1) requirement through study abroad. You will opt in after being accepted to your program and must complete a series of assignments before, during and after your time abroad. Talk with your academic advisor about whether you need to complete an I1 requirement through study abroad. You must complete the first assignments prior to going abroad; retroactive enrollment is not allowed.
