India Faculty-Led Immersion Academics

Eligibility

To apply, you must be a currently enrolled, degree-seeking, undergraduate student. You need to be in good academic, conduct and financial standing. You also need to have a cumulative GPA of 2.3. You must maintain enrollment and continue to meet the academic standing and GPA requirements the semester prior to departure. You may apply as a first year student, but must have at least sophomore standing by the time the program begins. Students from all academic disciplines are welcome to apply. This program is also open to non-UWEC* students. Please note that in the case of a competitive selection process, priority will be given to UWEC students.

*Non-UWEC students are not eligible for Blugold Commitment FLIIE funding, and will pay non-resident tuition fees if applicable. 

Course Information

All students should take (or have already taken) the following prerequisite course during fall 2018: WGSS 301 Examining Women's Studies. Students who are WGSS majors/minors could take WGSS 335 Transnational/Global Feminisms instead. ES 385 can also be substituted with instructor permission. 

The Winterim course in India is WGSS 422 Advanced Travel Seminar: India and Global Feminisms (3 credits).

Completion of this program fulfills your service-learning requirement.

Completion of this program fulfills the women of color/global women requirement for Women’s Studies majors and minors.  Please email Dr. Rose-Marie Avin (avinr@uwec.edu) after completion of the program to update your degree audit.

Liberal Education/General Education Requirements

For students in catalog years 2016-17 and later, the fall prerequisites WGSS 335 and WGSS 301 courses fulfill the Responsibility Outcome (R1): Equity, Diversity, and Inclusivity and Responsibility Outcome 2 (R2): Global Perspectives upon completion of all assignments. The Winterim WGSS 422 course also fulfills the Responsibility Outcome 2 (R2): Global Perspectives requirement upon completion of all course assignments. 

For students in catalog years through 2015-16, the fall prerequisite WGSS 335 and WGSS 301 both fulfill 3 credits of the Foreign Culture requirement upon successful course completion. The Winterim WGSS 422 course fulfills GE-III and 3 credits of the Foreign Culture requirement upon successful program completion (students earning a B.A., B.F.A. or B.M degree in the College of Arts & Sciences cannot use study abroad to fulfill their foreign language/foreign culture requirement. Academic Calendar

The tentative program dates are the first three weeks of January 2019. These dates are still tentative, do not book flights until after orientation in October.
