Guatemala Faculty-Led Academics
Course Information
UW-Eau Claire credits are not tied to this experience. However, this is an academic program and you will be required to participate in various preparation sessions, complete academic readings and assignments, keep a journal while abroad, and write a final reflection paper.
This program fulfills 30 hours of service learning while in Guatemala.
Academic Calendar
The program dates will be the first two weeks of January 2020, but exact dates are not yet confirmed. There is a group flight option for this program.
To learn more about the program itinerary, see last year's program activities and daily schedule:
Guatemala Itinerary 2020.
Liberal Education Requirements
For students in catalog years 2016-17 and later, this program fulfills the Responsibility Outcome 2 (R2): Global Perspectives requirement upon completion of all course assignments.
Spanish Language Immersion Requirement
This program can potentially fulfill a portion (2 weeks) of the immersion requirement for Spanish or Latin American Studies majors/minors. However, for this program to count towards the immersion requirement, you should be placed with a monolingual host family that speaks Spanish and be the only English speaking student in the household. This must be indicated and approved shortly after you are accepted into the program. There is also the option of staying for an additional 3 weeks after the official Argentina program ends to carry out an internship or project, which would completely fulfill the immersion requirement, but this must be discussed and approved prior to departure.
