Level of Support: Ecuador Faculty-Led Immersion

On-Site Resources:

This is a faculty-led immersion program, which means you will travel with 15 other UW-Eau Claire students and 2 UW-Eau Claire faculty/staff. Your faculty/staff leaders will be your main resource for any questions or concerns you have before, during, and after the program. 

The program also partners with Amazon Learning, a local social enterprise that creates meaningful educational experiences for people interested in gaining understanding of the link between local people and the Amazonian ecosystem. Staff from Amazon Learning will be our guide through much of the program, and is an excellent resource for any questions or concerns you have. Throughout the program, you will have opportunities to interact with various Ecuadorians through your host families, program activities, and service learning project. 

NOTE: This program is physically, emotionally, and mentally demanding. Days are long and filled with rigorous activities in either high altitude or heat and humidity, and alongside insects/bugs/ants/spiders that inhabit the jungle region. The homestay portion and service learning project might include demanding manual labor, based on the needs of the host families or local partners. Health and safety in these conditions will be discussed in length during orientation, but students should be aware of this going into the program.

Our local partners are knowledgeable about quality English-speaking doctors or hospitals in all cities you visit. This program specifically partners with Amazon Learning because of its detailed and experienced risk management policies and network of local resources.
