UW-Eau Claire Foundation Scholarships

If you were enrolled in a degree-seeking program at UW-Eau Claire at the time you applied to study abroad, you are eligible to apply for a number of study abroad scholarships from the UW-Eau Claire Foundation.
CIE- Administered Foundation Scholarships:
For a list of CIE-administered Foundation Scholarships, click here. Additional details are on the UWEC Foundation web site for Study Abroad Scholarships. These scholarships will open/be due on the following schedule:
Summer Programs: open January, due February 15
Fall/Academic Year Programs: open January, due April 15
Winterim Programs: open June, due August 15
Spring/Calendar Year Programs: open June, due August 15
(any student with an accepted application, in the UWEC Study Abroad application system, will receive an email when the scholarships open)

Scholarships Administered by UWEC College or Department:
Additional study abroad scholarships may be offered through specific academic departments, such as Languages, Nursing, Organizational Communication, Philosophy, Religious Studies, Service Learning, and others.  For more information please see the Gold for Blugolds Website. 

UWEC Geography Department Scholarships:
The UWEC Geography Department awards a $500/semester scholarship to all geography majors who study abroad!  If you go abroad for the academic year, you will receive it each semester as long as you make satisfactory academic progress. Check with the department for details!
Students who receive Foundation Study Abroad or Viennese Ball Scholarships are asked to write a reflective essay about their experiences upon return.  Follow the link to read insights from some of our study abroad scholarship recipients.

Blugold Commitment Study Abroad Grants

(~70 awards /year. $2,000-$3,000 for semester; $4,000-$5,000 (split across semesters) for academic year; $1,000-$2,000 for summer; $1,000-$1,500 for winterim)
  • UW-Eau Claire undergraduate student
  • EFC of $10,000 or less
  • Accepted to an approved UW-Eau Claire study abroad program that costs more than attendance at UW-Eau Claire
  • If participating on a winterim program, students must be enrolled at least half time in the spring semester after the program.
You must have a current Free Application for Financial Aid (FAFSA) on file; there is no other application. Grants will be automatically awarded with other financial aid. You can only receive this grant once.

Wisconsin Study Abroad Grants

(~40 awards/year: up to $2,000 for fall/academic year or spring. No summer or winterim grants available. )
  • UW-Eau Claire undergraduate student
  • Wisconsin resident
  • EFC of $10,000 or less
  • Accepted to an approved semester-long UW-Eau Claire study abroad program that costs more than attendance at UW-Eau Claire
You must have a current Free Application for Financial Aid (FAFSA) on file; grants will automatically be awarded with other financial aid.  You can only receive this grant once.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships

Students who are: a) U.S. citizens b) undergraduates in good standing at their home university c) currently receiving a federal Pell grant are eligible to apply for the Benjamin Gilman Scholarship.  Approximately 2,800 awards of up to $5000 will be made nationwide. USAC Scholarships

Students who are participating on the USAC programs that are offered at UWEC, might be eligible for USAC scholarships. These are only open to students accepted to a USAC program approved by UWEC.
  • Alliance Scholarship: for any student on the China, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ghana, France, Poland, Thailand programs. Award amount varies every year as does the amount of awards given. Amounts may vary from $200-$500. Students will be contacted by their UWEC study abroad coordinator when the application is available. 
  • Regional Specific Scholarships: open to any USAC student with a 3.0 GPA. Awards range from $500-$1000. Additional information will be provided on your USAC account, after you've applied.
  • Program specific scholarship: Check USAC's website for program specific scholarships for students studying in Chengdu, China; Pau or Lyon, France; or Massey University, New Zealand. Additional information will be applied to your USAC account after you've applied.
