UW-Eau Claire Foundation Scholarships

If you were enrolled in a degree-seeking program at UW-Eau Claire at the time you applied to study abroad, you are eligible to apply for a number of study abroad scholarships from the UW-Eau Claire Foundation.
 
CIE- Administered Foundation Scholarships:
For a list of CIE-administered Foundation Scholarships, click here. Additional details are on the UWEC Foundation web site for Study Abroad Scholarships. These scholarships will open/be due on the following schedule:
Summer Programs: open January, due February 15
Fall/Academic Year Programs: open January, due April 15
Winterim Programs: open June, due August 15
Spring/Calendar Year Programs: open June, due August 15
(any student with an accepted application, in the UWEC Study Abroad application system, will receive an email when the scholarships open)

Scholarships Administered by UWEC College or Department:
Additional study abroad scholarships may be offered through specific academic departments, such as Languages, Nursing, Organizational Communication, Philosophy, Religious Studies, Service Learning, and others.  For more information please see the Gold for Blugolds Website. 

UWEC Geography Department Scholarships:
The UWEC Geography Department awards a $500/semester scholarship to all geography majors who study abroad!  If you go abroad for the academic year, you will receive it each semester as long as you make satisfactory academic progress. Check with the department for details!
 
Students who receive Foundation Study Abroad or Viennese Ball Scholarships are asked to write a reflective essay about their experiences upon return.  Follow the link to read insights from some of our study abroad scholarship recipients.

Blugold Commitment Study Abroad Grants

(~70 awards/year. Up to $3,000 for semester; Up to $5,000 (split across semesters) for academic year; up to $2,000 for summer; up to $1,500 for winterim)
Eligibility:
  • UW-Eau Claire undergraduate student
  • EFC of $10,000 or less
  • Accepted to an approved UW-Eau Claire study abroad program that costs more than attendance at UW-Eau Claire
  • If participating on a winterim program, students must be enrolled at least half time in the spring semester after the program.
You must have a current Free Application for Financial Aid (FAFSA) on file; there is no other application. Grants will be automatically awarded with other financial aid. You can only receive this grant once.

Wisconsin Study Abroad Grants

(~40 awards/year: up to $2,000 for fall/academic year; spring; summer or winter)
Eligibility:
  • UW-Eau Claire undergraduate student
  • Wisconsin resident
  • EFC of $10,000 or less
  • Accepted to an approved semester-long UW-Eau Claire study abroad program that costs more than attendance at UW-Eau Claire
You must have a current Free Application for Financial Aid (FAFSA) on file; grants will automatically be awarded with other financial aid. You can only receive this grant once.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarships

Students who are: a) U.S. citizens b) undergraduates in good standing at their home university c) currently receiving a federal Pell grant are eligible to apply for the Benjamin Gilman Scholarship.  Approximately 2,800 awards of up to $5000 will be made nationwide. Applications and complete information are available on the Benjamin A. Gilman website.

USAC Scholarships

Students who are participating on the USAC programs that are offered at UWEC, are eligible for USAC scholarships. These are only open to students accepted to a USAC program approved by UWEC. Additional information will be posted to your USAC Gateway account once you are accepted by USAC (unless otherwise noted below). 
  • Affiliate Scholarship: for any student on an approved program. Award amount varies every year as does the amount of awards given. Amounts may vary from $200-$500. Students will be contacted by their UWEC study abroad coordinator when the application is available. 
  • Regional Specific Scholarships: open to any USAC student with a 3.0 GPA. Awards range from $500-$1000. 
  • Student Demographic Scholarships: USAC has scholarships specific to first-generation college students; US Military personnel; STEM students. 
  • Program specific scholarship: Check USAC's website for program specific scholarships for students studying in Chengdu, China; Pau or Lyon, France; New Zealand; Spain; etc.

Academy of International Business/Asia Institute Global Business Education Scholarship
For an international business major or minor studying in Asia. No limitations on program length.
American College of Thessaloniki Scholarships
For students studying on the ACT Greece program. Hellenic American and merit scholarships available. 
Ashley Soulé Conroy Foundation
Fall and spring semester only. No limitations on program location.
Bridging Scholarship for Study Abroad in Japan
Available to any major studying in Japan. No Japanese language requirement for scholarship application.
Boren Awards for International Study
Studying on a program outside of Western Europe, Canada, Australia, New Zealand. Must be studying a language from the list Boren has posted to their website.
BUTEX UK Scholarship
Only available to our Aberdeen, Glasgow or Stirling, Scotland programs.
Corinne Jeannine Schillings Grant
Semester, year long or summer. Must be a silver or gold Girl Scout.
Diversity Abroad Summer Scholarship
Summer only; any country. Required Diversity Criteria (must identify with at least one): African-American/Black, Asian/Pacific Islander, Disabilities, First Generation, Hispanic/Latino, LGBTQ, Low-Income, Multi-Racial, Native American. UW-Eau Claire is a Diversity Abroad member university. 
Diversity Abroad Ambassador Scholarship
Semester long programs; any country. Required Diversity Criteria (must identify with at least one): African-American/Black, Asian/Pacific Islander, Disabilities, First Generation, Hispanic/Latino, LGBTQ, Low-Income, Multi-Racial, Native American. UW-Eau Claire is a Diversity Abroad member university. 
Diversity Abroad & CISI Planning Scholarship
Intended or students planning to study abroad in summer or fall of the following year. You do not need to have selected a program prior to applying for the scholarship. Must demonstrate high financial need, Preference given to students who haven't studied abroad before. Students of diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply. UW-Eau Claire is a Diversity Abroad member university. 
Education in Ireland & Go Overseas Ireland Scholarship
For students studying at an Irish University.
Education New Zealand Scholarships
Variety of scholarships available to students studying in New Zealand.
FlipKey Study Abroad Scholarship
No limitations on program length or location. 
Freeman-Asia Scholarship
Programs in China, Thailand, Japan and South Korea are eligible. Program must be at least 8 weeks in length.
Fund for Education Abroad
Variety of scholarships, including but not limited to, a scholarship for students who identify as LGBTQI and a scholarship dedicated to supporting African American students. 
Good Colleges Study Abroad Award
No limitations on program location. 
Italia Rail Scholarship
For students studying in Italy.
HI USA Explore the World Scholarship
Only open to Minnesota students who have a permanent address in Hennepin County, Anoka County, Carver County, Dakota County, Ramsey County, Scott County or Washington County.
JASSO Scholarship (Japan)
Students are sent more information directly from their Japanese university, after acceptance. 
Lilly Lorenzen Scholarship
For students studying in Sweden.
National Italian American Foundation
Need to a member of the NIAF or have a parent, grandparent or guardian who is a member. Need to have at least one ancestor who has immigrated from Italy.
Scotland's Saltire Scholarships
For students studying in Scotland.
Scott's Cheap Flights Study Abroad Scholarship
Semester or summer programs. No limitations on program location. 
Tortuga Study Abroad Scholarship
Semester long, for-credit programs. No limitations on program location.
